This extracting frame came from the beehive and given directly to the judges just as the bees made it. An extracting frame is where the honey and bees wax comes from. To extract the honey, we cut off the outer layer of wax so we can access the honey. This outer layer of wax is cappings wax that we use to make beeswax candles. Both the beeswax candles and honey that won this year's awards are from the same batch.
Honeycomb is delicious enjoyed in the following ways: by the spoonful, in tea or coffee, spread on toast or crackers, on cheese and charcuterie boards, granola, fruit and yogurt.
Some ask if they can eat the beeswax. Yes, it is edible.
